email and snail mail addresses Hi, classmates,
I am wondering if I missed picking up a list of emai and snail mail addresses for our classmates during the reunion. I thought one was being prepared but somehow missed it.
I would like Ginger Tangeman Jarrel's contact info, either snail or email or phone. A mutual friend from class of 1966 would like to get in touch with her. Can anybody help with this?
Also: Jean St. Pierre mentioned today that she had no idea that we had a reunion last fall, she'd somehow fallen off our radar. Her email is jstpbeyer@gmail.com if we can add her to the class roster.
Happy New Year to everybody, and have a healthy and happy year wherever you are.
THANKS!

Inspector/Detectives Great undercover work Marvel, Sybil, and Bill. Colin Martin came to SJH in 9th grade or mid-8th. I connected with Dave Christy and he's doing great in Fargo ND. He played football in high school and college and ended up needing two knee and shoulder repairs. He's now moving without pain. Thanks Marvel For the contact information. I thought I might be number 13 in the 7th grade bb picture, but he said no way. He's going to send a 9th grade team picture.

Class size My memory of class size is the same as Bill's and Barb's: 716. Accurate or not? Hmmm ...
Marvel Schleve and I spent some time poring over photos from grade school, and she helped me fill in some blanks. Such fun to keep the reunion memories going.

THANK YOU ORGANIZING TEAM! Thank you Dottie Crawford, Mark Armstrong and all of you who put so much time, dedication, energy and LOVE into organizing the 50th Reunion. I have enjoyed revising the message board, the photo albums and being in touch with some of my classmates.
I certainly want to express my heartfelt gratitude for all the efforts that went into the gathering. I hope I can be there at another time.
Sincerely,
Carol

Class size I believe there were over 1,000....it was maybe the largest graduating class of RCHS and the over-crowding prompted the building of the other high school. Most of our required class sizes were close to 30 per class as I recall.
Carol Brownhill
Thank you I just want to thank the entire Reunion Team for the wonderful events that were planned and executed to perfection. We had such a great time reconnecting with friends from the some of the best times of our life. Our sense of community and friendship kicked in like it was yesterday. It made coming home very special and it was great to see all that were able to participate and be part of this time capsule event. Looking forward to seeing you all in 5 years, Stay safe, healthy and love your families and friends. Love to you all.

Thank you Committee! I just viewed the pictures Mark Armstrong sent & relived the fun and excitement of our fabulaous reunion. Thank you Dottie, Mark, Don & all who worked so hard on the committee to make our event so special. I didn't hear one negative comment regarding the entire event. It was a huge success and I can't wait until the next one. Loved seeing my friends from Jefferson School, Linda Wells, Bonnie Dail, Bob Grass, Don Blyler & Julie (Cookie) Margrave. Also enjoyed visiting with my political friend, Knute Knutson. Thank you again, Cheryl (Denker) Madden

Thanks Thanks to all the organizers of the 50th class reunion. You did a terrific job!! I had a wonderful time reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. I enjoyed the tour of RCHS and seeing the changes that have been made. The school is a beautiful building and I'm glad that there are still students walking its hallways. As I was walking through the halls, I could almost hear the sounds of lockers slamming, bells ringing, and the chatter of students as they worked their way to their next class. Wow! How did we get through those stairwells!

Wow! What a great reunion! First of all, let me thank the committee members, Mark Armstrong, Sue Bell, Don Blyler, Lynne Braband, Jodene Ehrich and David Schwietert for all the work they did to make this event a success. Secondly, I would like to thank Cathy Mooney for making name tags, Clacie Neu for organizing the golf and Dennis Buum for adding his musical talents to the Meet and Greet! Thirdly, I would like to thank all of you who attended the reunion. It would never have been so memorable without you.
Thank you Tanya Armstrong for taking pictures and Keith Mutchler for playing the bagpipes in memory of our departed classmates. Jodene and Lynne, the program was just perfect! Thank you again.
A special thanks to Max Nygaard for making a contribution to keep the website on-line into 2019!

Identification of 7th Grade South BB Team Hey Sybil! How the hell are ya? Fine as fine Italian wine, I hope. I thought by now someone with more recognition skills would respond.
Back Row(from l-r) Bruce Jensen, ?, Dave Christy, ?, Rick Kirschenmann (howz' my spelling),Bill Gifford, Steve Thomas.
Front Row (l-r:) ?, Tom Grau, Dohn Larsen, Steve Wilcox (with that shit-eatin' grin), then must be Rodney Blair on the end. This was 7th Grade BB, I came in 8th grade. Coach was Dwayne Whalen. our 8th Coach was the legendary Rudy Soderquist. 9th was Vince Henderson.Of course, we r'mber our favorite, Wes Storm ("Jarhead")
Our 9th Grade Middleweights were undefeated in FB. Dick Cross, Speedster. Gary Walklin, "Hitman". Rudy & Sculborstad were coaches. Henderson Heavyweights. Our class had outstanding All-Star Baseball Teams in Harney LL & Harney Pony League.
Great times were at the "Y". When 3 Junior Highs first came together. Our "Y" Club at South was "The Centurians" with the number "69" on our football type shirts. Never understood why, after a few weeks of wearing them in "The Y" we couldn't wear them there anymore. Cream and maroon colored.
Sorry that I didn't make it to our 5oth Reunion. Had to stay back in Cody and coach my tennis teams. Girls were undefeated 12-0 North 4A Champions beating out the Caspers, Gillettes, Sheridan. Had a 57 win 3 loss season. Regionals rained out so had to practice Saturday. Retired from teaching but still coaching tennis (34th year). All in Cody, Wyoming. Not blessed with children or grandchildren (happiest that I've ever seen my friends/relatives in when they are around their grandchildren). Therefore, I do a lot of traveling throughout Europe and "lived" in Florence....I LOOOOVVVVEEEEE FIRENZE!.....and Bergen, Norway. Have met 3rd cousins from all 4 sides of my ancestorial family. 3 in Norway & 1 in Sweden. Stood on my Great-Grandparents' stone foundation from their home (1840). Leaving for 6 months, of again, touring Eastern Europe, living back in Florence, then touring/"living" in New Zealand/Australia. Be gone 6 months. Befriend (anyone) me on Facebook and I will post photos/journals for you to view/read.
So glad everything went well for y'all at our 5oth. BaBoom!

Cheers for North! Congratulations to all of us, I wish I could be there! A big thank you to Patrick Langerman, Linda Jonas, Sonia Hart and Colleen Bolton for bringing back the memories and they were good ones. I remember being so proud when I attended North and even more proud to walk into the big high school that first day. I have family in Rapid and get back often to enjoy the hills but somehow rarely run into anyone I know.
I am an Interior Designer and after a long and wonderful career retired with my husband of 48 years to our lake home in Tennessee. We spent a year and a half enjoying retirement when he passed away suddenly, I am so grateful to have spent my life with such a wonderful man. I have relocated to beautiful Seattle to live by my daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law. Part of trying to travel on this new life journey is remembering who you were and where you came from so I truly thank you all for the memories.

Have a Memorable Weekend Thank you to all of you with your great memories of RCHS, South Junior and Wilson Elementary. Such great friends and neighbors nearby to "play and party with". Tom, I Wished I could remember Steve Smith - probably was my brother Roger's friend - as I loved the story about Bruce. I thought you all might enjoy seeing a basketball photo from South Junior with all you cute boys. So sorry to not be with you - enjoying all the postings! I'd been looking forward to this reunion for a long time. Have a great time! Though we live just outside of Rapid...out Nemo Road, I decided not to attend this year's reunio. We spend part of the year in Scotland as we have a cottage there and have had for over twenty years. I'm still playing bagpipes for weddings and funerals as well as teaching. We have a combined family of four kids and eight grandkids. Half are in Arizona and the rest in Illinois. I'm not hard to contact. In the phone book under Robert Peterson on Timberline Road West.
Enjoy,

French classes on TV - Garfield Elementary School - North Rapid Although I attended Garfield only 3 -4 years (maybe started Kindergarten there); it was one of the GO TO places I wanted my family to see when we visited in 2000. I remember Dave Bowen (we were both involved with the First Methodist Church) and my best friend Rose Marie who lived across the street.
The french teacher (who's son was in my class) did a great job with her efforts to get us singing, talking and maybe even thinking in French. To this day I value the decision by the school board to let her have time with us and then do the TV broadcasts.
Bruce Jensen...having a BA in Transpersonal Psycology - I really enjoy your vision and abilty to verbalize these subtle efemeral life forces existing within all of us (some feel it more than others...).
It is in this Message Board I came upon the the "Cobblers (soul repair)" notation. That is perfect for a class of 1967 that was destined to have to do alot of synthesizing to become whole in a world spiraling in or out or up or down...depending on where each person was on the spectrum of soul building at that time.

All-Stars...soul sharing....and old age Its so interesting and fun to read this message forum. Every message from every person is like a note from an extended family member-----some closer than others, of course, but still all so interesting. I truly believe nearing old age (and its shadow----our mortality) it motivates a need to communicate....to share life stories, soul stories (while there is still time). Seymour, the spiritual sage and eldest brother of the Glass family in J.D. Salinger's great stories, would ask his younger brother, Buddy....."Are all your stars out, Buddy?" Everyone has "star moments" in their life....some are blessed with so many they take it for granted, while some have only a few, treasuring them all the more. So, remembering our own personal "constellation of stars", like many of the affirmative messages here (takes us above and beyond the burdens)....and moves us closer to "Home"----and the spiritual radiance in the heart of us all. Forgive the Philosophy, but that was my degree at the U. of Utah.....they let me in 'cause I played pinball machines, and they let me out when I got a Philosophy degree. So, from philosophy to the practical : Tom.....thank you for more information about "Andy Williams" ---your sister's boyfriend who had a singing career in Australia. That affirms his singing talent (to myself and others). After you introduced me to "Andy", I wasn't closely "looking" at him, I was listening to him.... play the piano (yes, the very nice piano in your living room). We sat in a row looking at the sheet music for "Moonriver"....then he began to play and sing. Oh my god, Tom really does know Andy Williams (his voice was just like Andy Williams....just like Andy Williams voice is like Andy Williams) and I'm having a personal performance at Tom's house !!.....where he's staying. That vivid memory for me was much less for you 'cause you were sitting next to just 'ol Steve , your sister's boyfriend.....but I was in the presence of one of the greatest singers and performers of our generation .....and I felt honored and proud....until you guys started laughing so much----that kinda ruined it a bit for me. You had fooled me....I guess they call that "tomfoolery" !! Have a great reunion ! I sure enjoyed our "reunion" here. Take care, Bruce

Will not be able to Attend the reunion due to a family matter happening this morning Unfortunately I am having to turn around and return to Washington State due to a family issue developing. I got as close as 300 miles away from Rapid before having to return home. I had been so looking forward to coming to the 50th. I hope you all have a super time. I really have enjoyed reading letters and memories on this site and hope that I may read many more in the future.
I moved to Rapid City with my family in the fall semester of 1963,enrolling at West Junior High. We moved from Cheyenne, WY where I had lived all my life. I was one scared puppy, starting at a new school and not knowing a single person. And then it was on to Rapid High and more new faces with I believe over 1000 students in our 10th grade class at the time. Wow! More times to be a nervous and scared puppy. I did attend another high school the first semester of my senior but came back the Spring semester and graduate, barely I think, with the class of 1967. I was pretty much overweight and a face in the crowd. I think it was Greg Stanzyck or Bill Moran who nicknamed me Ralph, after Ralph Kramden. Charlie McDonald, Jack Dugan , and Gary Howe were best friends in HS and for awhile after HS. Trouble sometimes followed me when hanging with those guys but I still hold great memories with those guys. 60's and 70's were sometimes bumpy road for me. Woulda, coulda, shoulda then. Did graduate from the University of Wyoming and worked and retired in the medical field in Phoenix. Worked for Optum Health and United Healthcare until they asked m to retire in 2013. Moved to Washington shortly afterward where my wife and I live. Anyway I have babbled enough. Sorry sudden circumstances won't allow me to attend but I hope all of you have a blast. I am always looking for new friends on Facebook, and love hearing from. God Bless. PS. Typed this on my IPhone so pardon any typos.

Debate...remember the oligarchy approach from Spearfish? Sturgis? These message are great!! The memories that come with them are fleshing out as the messages continue.
Knute...good to hear from you...oh oh...just remembered that noir detective drama a bunch of us did for ...what was that called... a "talent" show? You were the detective, right? Don't want to remember my role...wasn't exactly the nice girl, was it...was so glad the lights were so bright I couldn't see the audience.
You got in touch with Dave Olinger? Yes, he was a fine Validictorian and excelled in Debate as well. Remember that little room the bunch of us we would inhabit up a few stairs on the upper floor..near the sociology teacher's room....was his name Mr. Roman?
I too was very surprized and saddened about the Memory list..Doug Browder, Bill Gifford, Mary Buettner really stand out at this moment.
There are many names I recognize from all of you who have posted. It's good to know there are many who still feel a connection to RCHS. Best wishes to all of you.
BTW I wanted to correct an error on my previous post...the name of complete T-Rex skeleton found in So. Dak that led to the T-Rex museum in Hill City was "Sue"...not "Lucy"..obviously I got my fossils mixed up there.
Have fun at the reunion.

Fond Memories Like many others, I have enjoyed reading the posts. Don't stop. I have fond memories of many of you and remember your names (plus, I have our yearbook)-- many of you from North Junior High (yes, Linda J, I hope you share your pictures), General Beadle Elem, Trinity Luth church, The Y, Roosevelt, Robinson & Sioux Park Swim teams, and, of course, RCHS to name just a few.
I wish I could be there this week-end, but looks like a great group that will be attending with fantastic activities planned. Have fun and hope pictures will be shared.

Would liked to be there Well, it is official, I won't be at the reunion this year. My Mom (94) went to be with the Lord last night and so today we set up the plans for her funeral. It will be Fri here in Michigan. So as much as I had looked forward to being with you, . . . .
Please keep posting messages. I love reading what the rest of you are doing.

Look forward to seeing you all I too have enjoyed reading all the messages along the way. It seems impossible that our graduation occurred a half century ago. I recognized all the folks who posted both photos and messages along the way. I've kept my Yearbooks open on my desk since people started posting. Everytime someone posts, I look them up. The memories are incredible and fun.
The Wilson/South group has been very active of late. I was a Lincoln, Robbinsdale, Anaheim CA, West guy. We'll have good representation from West and all those memories have been coming back as I look everyone up.
I think the debators will be somewhat represented. I loved Carol Brownhill's post. Carol, you lived close to the school and we always stopped for cokes at the little store close to your house. I think it was on 8th St. David Olinger has promised he will attend. He has to be our resident genius. I think the varsity debators all graduated in the top 10 and we secured 1st and 2nd. That is with the exception of me. I was firmly in the middle of the pack of our very large class, clearly not in the same class as the group with whom I spent lots of time. The debators ran the coat check for all the varsity BB games. That probably the reason I have season tickets here in Reno for UNR.
I attended confirmation at Trinity Lutheran with a couple of guys who are registered for our festivities . One became a fraternity brother at SDSM&T. Larry and Craig: I think you know who you are. Larry graduated while I went on to a bunch of other schools. Trinity is probably the reason why we are very active in Good Shepherd Lutheran here in Reno. Funny how this all works and establishes lifetime patterns. I still do a golf vacation with RCHS/SDSM&T friends. Our handicaps are up and our driving distance is way down.
So, this is all happening soon and I'm looking forward to it. There are names on the Memory page what won't be attending. I'm sadened by this list of folks. There are names on this list that I count among very good friends. I remember Doug Browder arguing the relative merits of Bob Dylan going electronic. I remember our debate float decorating at Cheryl Buettner's house. Barb Knecht was on my arm at the SDSM&T Homecoming photo in that yearbook. I could go on with so many of them.
See you all soon.

Greetings, Fellow Cobblers I have loved reading all the postings and am looking forward to reconnecting with so many of you. My husband and I have moved several time and have had several different addresses in Washington State and thus, over the years, I have lost contact with most of you. Reunion site - band scrap book This site has been fantastic, because there is NEVER enough time during a short weekend reunion to hear every story and laugh at every memory. Thanks to all who are posting; some stories have given me a new insight to people I thought I knew! HA
Gayle Herndon has entrusted us with the Cobbler Band scrap book (Ibelieve it was given to her by Jim Yarrington), and we will be bringing it to the reunion. We can chat then about the best place for this treasure.

Your memories are incredible! I've really enjoyed reading your posts, Bruce and Norm (along with everyone else's). The stories you've shared are priceless, but have been long gone from my memory. Thanks for bringing them back.
The Andy Williams story is hilarious. I remember the guy, but I don't remember having you over to the house, Bruce, to hear him sing. His name was Steve Smith, and he was from Torrington, WY. He lasted about 2 years as a boyfriend of my sister. We were introduced to him by our neighbors, the Simpsons, and he was a friend or college roommate of one of Mary's brothers. He did look quite a bit like Andy and had a very similar voice, which of course he played to the hilt. Not sure whatever happened to him, but I think he ended up having a singing career of sorts in Australia. With an unusual name like Steve Smith, he's a little hard to find on the internet, as there are only about 700 million others with that name. My mom loved him because he was always flattering her, but my dad wasn't as fond of him. Dad always told the story about when Steve was in the army stationed in Germany and called my sister collect in the middle of the night, and they talked for about 2 hours. It was a huge bill and I remember Dad being pretty upset and sharing that with Neil Simpson, Mary's dad. I think together they decided not to like him. Dad never let that story go.
We It was fun to hear from you, too, Kathi Krikac. I remember that you and your family were patients of my dad. Patient privacy didn't exist in those days and HIPPA hadn't been thought of. In fact, it was just the opposite. I think the doctor in a small town was expected to share with others when people were in the hospital so everyone knew and could send cards or visit. He wouldn't be doing his job if he kept it to himself. How times change!
I'm looking forward to our reunion and hearing more stories from our days at RCHS, some of which might even be true. Cheers to all.

Previous reunion I found a bunch of photos from our 30 year reunion. I would love to share. Excited to see some of these faces. Any chances some of the north side kids are around.

What fun it is to read you posts! It's been 40 years since I made it to a class reunion! I guess life just gets busy. I'm so amazed at memories posted here! What fun to read. I attended Wilson, South Jr High and of course Central. Yet when I was in college my parents moved so I didn't see many of you after that as I wasn't coming to Rapid for school vacations. I have always kept in touch with Jane Haggenstad and Patty Hobbs who used to be my partner's in crime...all you had to do was look for Patty's yellow racing stripe on 8th! I've been married for 48 years; Gerry and I have three children and seven grandchildren. I was a art teacher and my husband was an engineer and we've lived many different places but after retiring we moved to the Minneapolis area to be near our kids and grandkids. We're just a pretty normal family who loves to spend time together at the lake! Grandkids are one of life's greatest joys!
I won't be attending the reunion because of some recent health issues but I have totally enjoyed your pictures and the fun memories you've posted! Tom Grau I love the Andy Williams story...and here I always thought you were the kindest boy!
To all those attending enjoy the reunion.. it sure seems like it's early though? I always thought the 50'th was for old people!

Humor, the Heart, and Home.....and Tom Grau Norm alerted me to his (humorous) message and memories here (just as I've been called home to help Dad for a few days, now right back to Seattle to finish the sale of our house and then.... another long journey to find a new home). Serving the needs of others (father, wife, family) is a labor of love, but at times "task unto task" in our busy modern way of life fills the hourglass with water----not sand. Memories and music take us right back----like a "time machine" to the past. Tom, I enjoyed your comments and want to "Thank you" (again) for one of the great humorous moments in my life. In high school you asked me if I wanted to come home with you after school and listen to Andy Williams practice singing at your house. He was visiting and staying with you a few days. 'Wow ! Andy Williams--- yeah, sure', I said. I really liked Andy Williams' singing and television program. We sit down next to Andy at the piano and he starts singing-----what a beautiful, heartful voice ! ---it was an honor for me and when I said so....you both burst out laughing !! It was a friend of your family who looked similar to Andy and sang exactly like him. It was the greatest, most humorous hoax played on me my whole life.....thank you so much ! for fooling me so completely and giving me this "Moonriver" memory !....your naive friend, Bruce........please say hi to "Andy" for me sometime.

Rapid City Reminisce "RAPID CITY REMINISCE"
I was sitting in Earth Science Class at South Jr. Hi when the announcement came over. "The President has been shot!" It was some 20 minutes later and we went to lunch and while standing in line at the cafeteria, Principal Nordbye announced, "John Fitzgerald the 35th President of the United States is dead." I so remember all the girls crying and we boys, we weren't suppose to cry. We all remember that day, oh so well.
The Beatles "invaded" all 3 Junior Highs. Students impersonating and pantomiming. South had Gary Doolittle, Bruce Jensen, Steve Nielsen, & Dohn Larson. West had Brian Winters, Jimmy Hilton, & 2 others. North had Price Purdum, Gary Engle, & 2 others. "Played" at other school's assemblies with girls screaming very loud.
In 8th grade at South, our mascot name was taken away from us because Rebels meant "to rebel". So, we did. Everyone brought sack lunches and no one bought hot lunches. We got our Rebels name back.
Pop Bottle Freddie, Crankcase Annie, The Walker, and the Li'l Blind Guy were downtown Rapid City characters of the 60's. R'mber Pop Bottle Freddie went all about town with his little red wagon collecting pop bottles. Crankcase Annie always wore that heavy tweed coat(even in hot sumers), hats, and had bracelets up and down both arms and necklaces. Brown, thick wrinkled nylons and the glassiest blues eyes ya ever saw. She would always smile and tell the same joke "Why is a river so rich? It has two banks." The Walker was that tall thin man in a black suit, white shirt, tie, & black tie walking really fast about town. One night when the Big Four(Moran, Walklin, Jensen, Sedig) were down at the KP playing the "pinners", jukebox, frying burgers n' fries, mixing malts, eatin' Karmel Korn about midnight after the "Y" closed, we forgot to lock the front door and the Lil' Blind Guy came in thinking we were open. So, we fried him up a burger n' fries.
We had a big magnet to run the pinball where we wanted it to rack up free games until Moran(Philzy)and Dugan had it down at "The Hole" and brought the ball right through the shattering glass.
Yeah, Tommy Grau. I r'mber when your Uncle(?) was visiting you and he sang and played the piano. You told Jensen he was Andy Williams and, of course, Bruce believed you. Our most gullible classmate. One night The Big Four were out at the Robbinsdale Bowling Alley. We wer leaving and Dugan and his croonies were going in. Jack says to Bruce, "Jensen look at my new car!" "Wow, Jack that is really nice!" Jack in his evil way invites Bruce, "Go ahead and sit in it!" Benny Arguello comes out and says to Bruce, "Carry it!" Bruce puzzled, replies, "Carry what?" Benny: Carry your ass outta my car!" R'mber after high school Dugan and Weasel were hungry out in California and tried to get some money to eat?
Wilson Grade school PTA. The Southern Aires Trio (Jensen, Kirschemann, Sedig) were singing for the event. We sang Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind". Harmony on chorus and each sang solo on verses. I started singing Bruce's verse and he kept nudging me, "that's my verse" while I was singing it. Soon, we were both giggling and singing falsetto with Rick on bass. Bruce's Dad called us the 3 Stooges afterwards. We got Stage Fright (An album by The Band).
R'mber the streets downtown when one could cross diagonal?
Bill Gifford and I were the starting guards in basketball at South. "Giff" came to Cody years ago to open up an Electric Supply Store. We played guards together again in the 35 and over Cody Basketball Leauge. 30 years later.
The When I was a new student at South in 8th Grade, I bought a new red Schwin Bicycle at Harvey's Fix-it Shop on Omaha. $61.95. Still have the tag. Rode it to South until the "Hoods" befriended me and they drove cars. Embarrased, I quit riding my bike to school. Fixed the same bike up a few years ago and it cost $135.00
Hey Cobblers! If ya got this far, congrats! Just wanted to share with any of ya to maybe bring back some memories. I'm sure y'all have similar memories.....your own.

Tour of Eilson Elementary I am also interested in a tour of Wilson. I remember walking to school and crossing 8th Street (now Rushmore Road) as it was widened. It was a muddy mess.

Will miss you I have been planning on being with you for the reunion. However, my Mom (94) is now under hospice care and Vicky and I are staying with her. The Dr. had said she only had 3-4 days to live, a week at the most. That was almost 5 weeks ago now. I don't see things changing in time for us to get to the reunion. That could change any time though.
Vicky (Carr) and I were married in '73 and now have 4 children and 11 grandkids. God has blessed us so much.
For the past 44 years I have done over 200 "shows" per year for kids in churches, camps and school assemblies. We have done shows in all 50 states and 8 other countries. What a fun ride.
If things take a sudden change, I still may be able to join you. It would sure be great to see you again.
Sheldon Rhodes
Jim Moore and Tom Grau Jim, if there is a tour of Wilson, I'm in. I was attending Wilson (4th grade bussed from Robbinsdale) and then moved a block away during the school year! I remember running home for those air raid drills. :( Ha!
Tom, your dad was my doctor!! He probably saved my life at least once! I'm excited that he's still with you.
Kathi Krikac
Hello Thanks, Norm, for the recap on your life and for bringing back so many good memories of our days at South Junior High and RCHS. I, too, wish Candis and Mary were going to be there. Candis was my "girlfriend" (although I don't think she knew it) all the way through Wilson School and Mary was my next door neighbor all those years. The real "girl next door."
I remember a sleep over or two at Bruce Jensen's place in a little house across Highway 79 from their main house, but I never lasted the night. My dad had to come and get me because I was homesick. I was such a "homebody" back then until I got interested in girls, and then I wanted to sleep over with them. But my mom said no. I remember his dad, Al, and it's good to know he's still living. My dad is, too, approaching 102. Crazy. It's what keeps me working fearing I may have similar genes.
I didn't know you lived in Cody until this website started for our class reunion. I've driven through there several times on my way to Jackson Hole. Teton National Park is one of my favorites.
Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else next weekend.
Tom Grau
P.S. Jim Moore - I'd be interested in a tour of Wilson School if the option is still there. I lived about 1 block from there through 3rd grade and then moved about 3 blocks farther south, next to Mary Simpson
Thomas Grau
In Bruce's message, he refers to the Big Four's Sanctuary. The KP, my Dad's Korn Palace 'Down on Main' (Janis song, 1969). Moreso, me and Bruce's Sanctuary, as we both had been "cut" from the Sophomore Basketball Team and we both quit B Choir. I was President. Bruce ran X-Country for four years. We pretty much "dropped" out, only attending classes and going to the KP.
Howie Naaz (Football, Sophomore BB Coach) had came out after 1st day of FB practice our Sophomore year, to the Covered Wagon Resort near Piedmont, where I lived & worked, recruiting me to play football. Not sure why, I wasn't very good. Told him that I wanted to work and chase tourist girls. Probably why I got "cut" in basketball.
I was blessed as my family moved to Whitewood and I attended Sturgis High School my Senior year. I was able to start all over in friendships, sports, choir, and popularity. Thoroughly enjoying school again. Like 8th & 9th grades at South Jr. High. Sorry, but one could get "lost" in a school the size of Rapid City "Central" back then.
I'm retired from teaching/coaching in Cody, Wyoming. However, I continue to coach the High School Tennis Teams. In fact, I will miss my first tennis meet/tournament this weekend in 34 years as Head Coach. To attend our 5oth Reunion in Sturgis. "Once a Cobbler, always a Scooper". Chee! Sorry.
Please don't get me wrong or have hostile feelings towards me. If I didn't develop many friendships while attending RCHS, I wouldn't have attended "our" 20th & 40th Reunions. Or RC's Class of '67 50th Reunion in two weeks.
I wish Mary Simpson & Candice McClusky were attending. Fond memories of them, me & Bruce hanging around Wilson Park one Saturday afternoon after one of those great weekly gatherings in 9th grade of playing pass-football. Girls watching. Anyhoo, the "Four of Us" (John Sebastian Song-'69). frolicked & flirted by stuffing grass down the top of our shirts. hee-hee. R'mber Candice, Mary, & Bruce? Good Times! Fun Times!! heehee
Bruce is home (RC) visiting his Dad right now. He is going to ride back to Cody Monday with me following my Sturgis 50th. We will non-stop talking the whole way. Sharing memories. Even though we visit via phone/e-mail at least once a week for many years. Have been keeping in touch with Gary vis e-mails last few years. And visit Big Bill (Philzy) and his wife in Michigan from time to time. The Big Four.
Chee! R'mber Gary would drive his parent's little white station wagon? Going up and down 8th street, Bruce & I would sit in the back and climb out of the back windows on top of the wagon without Gary knowing it. Ride on atop for a couple minutes then slide down the front windshield onto the hood. Moran splitting a gut and Beer Gut getting all angry. Hilarious. Oh, the things we all did for fun! "Those were the Days, my friends!"
peace, love, Cobblers,
Norm (alias HS nickname, "Seduce")
p.s. Yes, Bruce recommended us to read the lyrics of Bob Dylan's Dream. So true.

Hello I know you are probably thinking who is this? Well, hello from another one of those Crawford girls. I have been way out here in the Seattle area for 49 years. Ordinary life, highlighted by two boys and now five grands. Only advice they listened to was my regular preaching about having adventures before settling down. I suggested maybe after they were at least 30 they would be mature enough to marry. Who knew they would listen. Traveled a normal amount, worked in a school office for 24 years and that allowed me to retire three years ago. Living a simple life, sharing a house with a friend and my mom. She is turning 87 soon and still is doing well. Discovered she has a wicked sense of humor a year ago when she finally moved in with us. I was back in the Hills for a "cousins" reunion last summer. So much has changed over all the years. Would have been lost without family to guide me around, thank you very much. We will be somewhere in a campground while you celebrate surviving 50 passing years. Now that school has begun again the roads in the Pacific Northwest are calling my name. A toast to all of you who are gathering. Thanks to the reunion committee for reaching out to all they could find. I actually found my year book and looked back! A special hello to the many friends who spent their years in the smelly old gym with me, and you know who you are. Would love to hear from you. Stay safe in this uncertain world we live in.........love to all! Barb (Crawford) Scavera

Hello Class of '67 Best wishes to all of you. I'm sure your time together during the Reunion will be rewarding and fun and reaffirming.
Looking at the photo album, reading the In Memory list, and perusing the Message Board, my mind returns to Rapid City and the school experiences that had their part in shaping my views of my world, both inner and outer.
I have known some of you since Wilson Elementary School up through a few years at South Dakota State University (SDSU...not to be confused with San Diego State University also SDSU...:>).
At some point, I left So. Dak for the West Coast and have only returned once (with my husband and 3 kids) in 2000. We visited all the places my family lived in Rapid City, as well as Deakwood, Hill City, the T Rex Museum (Lucy's jaw somehow ended up in the Custom's Division in Lima Peru before being returned to the US), Sylvan Lake and a part of that beautiful trail that goes down the creek from Sylvan Lake, Mt. Rushmore, drove through "the Hills" on the old highway...there were even still some signs exactly where they used to be...such a journey down memory lane.
In between leaving and now, I took up residency in South America for about 14 years (mainly Peru - in the Cusco region + a year in Brasil) and have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area in the US. My husband and I lived about a year in Santa Fe, NM. We're going on 40 years together and still enjoy laughing, playing and trying to figure our kids out (right.....). We've finally given up on that and just love them for the amazingly right on people they have become.
Life is "so far so good" and we hope and intend to live as best we can in this ever changing multidimensional world and culture we have been born into.
Stay healty, eat your greens, drink alot of water, love deeply, face those demons if called upon to do so, keep active. Maybe we'll meet again.
Best wishes always, my husband

Hello Classmates Like many of you this will be my first re-union. I moved back to Rapid City after living in New York for 20 years, Rapid City is a bit more relaxed. I believe I may be like some others in that I probably knew who 50% of the class was and probably acknowledged, either in class or in the hallways, maybe 5% of you and had a handful or two of close friends whom I have lost touch with. I look forward to 50 years of catching up. I am thrilled that the Friday night Meet and Greet is at the Thirsty’s Restaurant. Fifty years ago Thirsty’s Restaurant was Rapid Furniture and Appliance, my Dad and Uncle’s business back then. They actually built that building themselves after their original business at 5th and St. Joe burned to the ground in the late 1950’s. Of course I worked there Saturdays and summers during high school (Dad couldn’t fire me) so it was a good job. Thirsty’s is now owned by Frank Morrison a fellow classmate who I shared homeroom with. I am also really looking forward to the tour of the old school building and along that line and recalling that I barely made it through high school, (I graduated in the top 90-95% or so) I consider Wilson Elementary School as my Alma Mater as I had my best grades and attendance there. As it turns out I have a friend from church that is a teacher now at Wilson and could arrange a tour of that school as well if that is of interest to other Wilson alumni. Wilson School will be having a 75 year celebration in two years and they are looking for interesting facts and or photos that they can use during that celebration. If a few of us former Wilson kids have an interest in a quick tour of that school as well I could set that up. If this is of interest please contact me soon at nydakota@mit.midco.net or leave a note on this Message Board. Looking forward to a fun time. Jim Moore

Mary Simpson Dear Mary. Thank you for your kind thoughts. It was great to see the picture of you and Candis. I have many fond memories of you at South Junior High and in High School. Bruce Jensen and his wife, Irmi Irmgard (Irmi) and I celebrating at a mountain-lake resort in the Schwarzwald (the Black Forest in southwest Germany). Irmi was born and raised in Germany. We have been married 37 years and are selling our house in Seattle and seeking to find a place in Germany. We will be traveling, so I wanted to send good greetings to all at the class reunion. Just reading the names of classmates is enjoyable with the inherent curiosity.... what were your journeys in life....what did you experience, what did you learn...if there was ever a collection of classmates "highlights of my life" compiled into a ...BOOK OF JOURNEYS...I'd buy it in a heartbeat (and I bet it would end up being a bestseller!). "Time is a river...irresistable...sweeping us to the ocean of Being" (Marcus Aurelius)
May Divine Light and Love Bless us all! Bruce

To the Korn Palace Komrades: Sedig, Walklin and Moran In memory of that little Korn Palace cafe that Norm's dad had near 6th and Main...this inspiring story honors a special place in our youth...our "sanctuary"... (re-listen to the lyrics of Dylan's song..."BOB DYLAN'S DREAM" 1963). The old pinball machine there was our "training ground" where we practiced and perfected our pinball-life skills. How it paid off for me.
After high school, I'm trying to pass entrance requirements to be accepted as a freshman at the University of Utah. Had a final interview with a pre-qualifying curriculum counselor. The first thing he said, was: Did you practice your game?" ..... "Sir?" (I was confused).... "Pins! Did you practice ...playing pinball machines growing up?"... "Oh yes sir, I did, at the Korn Palace back home. And I had the three best pinball buddies, ever."
Immediately, he said, "That's all I need to know. You're in! Congratulations. You're going to have a great college career!"
Thanks, guys, for making it possible...for all your help and humor.

Gary Walklin Dear Gary, I have appreciated reading your comments and so many others on the message board. You are as kind and compassionate as ever and your wife has been fortunate in the fact that you are her loving caregiver.

The Reunion Committee wants to see everyone attend our 50th Reunion!
RSVP Hi Everyone, I would like to get all the people that have signed up on ClassQuest.com. to get your reservation filled out and payed for. Having these reservations will allow us to finish the preparations for the reunion. It also lets others know who will be attending, which will give others a reason to sign up. The 50th is probably the last of these events, that will fall under the heading of reunion. The 60th and up, will be more or less survival parties. (My opinion only, does not necessarily represent the views of the reunion committee or it's other members).

Photos Hi Again, If anyone has photos that you would like to see displayed at the reunion, please email or send them to me. We would like to have these running on a couple screens during the dinner and dance. My email dbird@rap.midco.net. Thanks Mark

50th Reunion It is with great regret that I will not be able to attend the reunion. I was looking forward to connecting with many old friends who I fondly remember with many dear memories. I would have enjoyed the music by Dennis Buum and Louie Arguello.
My wife Jacqueline Colson has a degenerative neurological disorder (a Parkinsonism) and is unable to travel. I am her caregiver. It is a tragic illness that takes everything.
This is a picture of Jacqueline and me in Kauai in 1994!

What Memories That Picture Brought Back! I sure wish I was able to travel to be with you all for the reunion. I looked at that picture of RCHS and just smiled. So many memories. I was home the last time in 2003 and it was hard to believe all the changes that had taken place. My husband and I just celebrated 41 years together last February. I retired from Lockheed Martin after 30+ years working in the Defense Systems and mostly with Navy computer weapons systems. I was fortunate enough to be able work on one system from cradle/concept to fleet implementation! The AEGIS Weapons Systems. Not to many peoble get to do that. I think I spent more time on ships at sea as a civilian than I did as a sailor. I wiah you all well and have fun!

Kathi, scooter ride sounds fun. Have to bring my Fatboy for a Fatboy. When back in RC, I always love to drive up and down West Blvd. and reminsce the South Junior High parties at your Mansion and Gifford's house. 10 years ago I mentioned to Dottie that we should have a South Junior High Class Reunion and she replied, "Yeah, and you organize it!" Working on getting Gary Walklin, Bruce Jensen, and Bill Moran to attend. Thanks for being Americans!

Hello I am a voice from the past as I left Rapid City and South Jr. High in 7th grade (1962) and having my 50 year HS reunion here in California. More importantly, I remember well many names and faces while tracking the Cobbler Reunion website. It brings back great memories of friends and my time in Rapid City. With that, my best to all Cobblers, but a particular hello to my buddy Tom Grau and my teammates on the 1961 Harney LL team Bill Moran and Clacie Neu. There are several others, but nobody cares to hear me go on and on. Cheers. Rod Blair

Sorry to Miss the Party Unfortunately, I am unable to attehd the 50th reunion. It will be the first that I have missed. Retirement life in the Pacific Northwest is great. I am now the goofy old lady with a cute dog that I never thought I would be. He is great company and makes me laugh every day. I also attend Silver Sneakers ecercise class 3 times a week, play golf as often as I can and am still an avid reader. If you're anywhere close to Portland, Oregon, please give me a call. We have great food, wine and brews...and a coffee shop on overy corner. Enjoy, everyone. I look forward to seeing photos and comments from the reunion.

Rodney Blair - Wow. Thanks for writing on the website. I remember you well (well, sort of). 7th grade basketball. You were a heck of a guard, but likely too short for the NBA. :) If I remember right, you moved to Hawthore, CA, right? I think I even visited you there when my family was vacationing in CA a year or two later.
And hi, Gary. I'm really surprised you remember that party. I sure didn't until you brought it up, although it's probably not the only thing I don't remember from our days at RCHS. Which is likely a good thing. I was such a nerd.
Thomas Grau
Double Dribblers Hi Rodney. I always remembered you as a nice guy.
Tom. Roasting apples in a campfire on a beautiful summer night; who could forget. And the gocart was really fun, but someone burned their leg on the exhau. Then there was the other cabin party that was a little wilder, but innocent and fun. You always had the best parties.
Gary Walklin
Let's get signed up. Hey guys and gals, we are getting close. I'm not seeing some friends I want to see signed up.
Louie Arguello, Andy Comer, Randy Rapp, Sheri Longhofer. Colleen Bolton. Hope to see you guys and many more. Miss you all, Brian Harding.

Joanne Gulbranson, Sybil and Chuck Rounds Jo said she could not make the reunion this year, so we brought the party to her!!! It was great seeing her and she sends the Class of '67 her best wishes for a good reunion.

Hello to all of my 1967 classmates! I moved to Rapid City in June of 1964, having spent the first 15 years of my life in a suburb of Los Angles. I did not attend middle school in Rapid City, but completed three years of high school in Rapid City. Our move to Rapid was a cultural shock to say the least. I found my fellow Rapid City High School students to be accepting.
I am looking forward to seeing all of my classmates at the reunion. I am saddened by all the people who have already passed. There are some good friends in this list. I wish to extend a special thank you to the reunion committee. This will be a great experience and I look forward to talking to all of you. The attached picture was taken some time ago. I look much better now.
